This is the best-quality sailmaker's roping palm from Wm. Smith & Son of England.  This style of palm has a larger thimble pattern for medium to large sized needles.  It also has a raised thumb collar, allowing thread to be looped around the thumb for pulling and tensioning.  Roping palms are the best for heaviest duty hand sewing, as well as palm and needle whipping rope.  For normal hand-sewing, a seaming palm may be a better option.
