This ASEK Knife has a black coated 420HC stainless steel blade.
The included sheath system can be worn on the leg, attached to a belt, or attached to MOLLE gear using the included MOLLE Back panel and MALICE clip.
Military specifications call for a fully insulated handle, so the LMF II has a 3/4 tang with internal glass-filled nylon core and external textured rubber grip. The glass breaker pommel is fully insulated from the blade.
Gerber's LMF II comes with an ambidextrous sheath and integral knife sharpener.
The military ASEK system requirement states that the blade must have a partially serrated blade for cutting cordage, soft metal, acrylic, etc.
The LMF II ASEK knife handle has an integral glass breaker pommel and lashing holes for incorporating the knife into a spear.
Each Gerber LMF II ASEK Knife comes with a strap cutter tool allowing a downed airman to cut through webbing, straps, cargo netting, and shroud lines. The strap cutter also has a glass breaker pommel.
The LMF II ASEK strap cutter has its own sheath that can be detached from the main system and carried separately as needed.

ASEK is the US Military acronym for "Aircrew Survival Egress Knife". Gerber's LMF II Knife is one of two accepted ASEK systems designed to help aircraft crew members cut their way free of downed aircraft and perform other survival tasks.  The LMF II ASEK system includes the knife, MOLLE compatible ambidextrous sheath with leg straps, and separate strap cutter with sheath. The strap cutter sheath can be mounted to the main sheath if desired.
